Our new home has small, north facing windows in the front surrounded by a nice, thick contrasting white trim, so I knew I had to do something different than just the typical hanging curtains.
When I came across this wonderful tutorial for Roman shades over at Ready Made I knew I'd found the perfect solution for our windows. This tutorial is fantastic! I would have never thought I - being such a beginner seamstress - could start (and finish!) something like Roman shades!
If you look closely at mine, however, they far from perfect. But that's ok with me. They work & look pretty so I'm happy! They fold up all the way, or cover however much of the window you'd like them to.
Also, I have another {little} before & after I'd like to show you. I bought this little decorative cabinet YEARS ago at Cost Plus World Market. I always liked it, and it was clearanced for about $12 I think, but the colors and dark tones never really fit in my house.
So when I went on my furniture refinishing rampage before we moved last month, I threw this into my project pile...
And I'm glad I did! Here it is now:
Like I did with the piano, I stamped little French words on this one too.
I love how it turned out. As you can see, I put antique sheet music in the windows, painted it "Ladurée green", and distressed it.
So now I don't hide this on top of my kitchen cabinets as I did before when it was dark & gloomy. This baby gets prime displaying now.

Hope you like!

Cheers,
Heather

  8. Heather - I love both projects! I need to check that Roman shade tutorial out. I wanted to make large roman shades for my french doors. I've almost purchased some several times, but always hesitated because of the price. I love this because I could pick my own fabric! Great job on the spice cupboard too! You're very talented!
